3 Bodies, 2 boxes, one shared pursuit: Belonging.
Through hand-to-hand techniques, theater, dance and percussion. Parabox explores the peculiar dynamics of friendships within a group of three using a humorous yet truthful approach. As the characters experience each other between support and judgement, they keep surprising each other by breaking and bending the rules of their own games.
Artistic Approach
Parabox is a minimalistic contemporary circus show about being human. It’s about the most normal experiences like fighting with the ones you love, being lonely but also about feeling connected and uplifted. On stage only three bodies and two boxes, as a costume jeans and t-shirt – Parabox aims its research at the core of society: the togetherness of people. As they are unperfect, full of emotions and don’t always fit. The goal is to transmit feeling to the audience as the artists interact with each other through movement, rhythms and games. At the same time the piece serves as a breather from perfectionism and as a reminder that humanity is the very core of our society.
Description
As the artists try to create a space where everyone belongs, the show reveals both the joy and awkwardness of honest connection. The show portrays an entire group process: from meeting each other through conflict and learning to trust, until a strong community is formed. A high level of technique and authenticity ensures to engage audiences, as the artists are bringing real experiences to the stage, letting audiences in to see vulnerability revolving around social conflicts that we normally hide away, especially when working in teams. Posing a question of importance between individualism and community, the boxes on scene become the center of game, conflict, and resolution at once.
